For as long as I can remember, talks of a Skate Park rambles throughout the town every year. We never really hear much about it other than rumours so I did some research and will try to come to a conclusion on whether it will happen.

This post isn’t about my views this is an article based on what’s being said and giving my opinion if a skate park in New Ross should be built. I am in no way slating anoyone involved in these articles. It’s not about opinion or questioning people’s work.

I found a thread on Boards.ie from 2015 – https://www.boards.ie/discussion/274483/skate-park-in-new-ross . Going by that thread – from 2005 – there were rumors of a skate park. I could not find any facts about plans or proposals for one. That was almost 20 years ago. At that period – it seems it became a talking point. I have heard from people this was a topic of discussion in the 90s and perhaps even further back.

An Independent article from 2022 states a proposal for a stake park would be lodged with Wexford County Council next year (2023). https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wexford/new-ross-news/plans-for-a-skate-park-in-new-ross-inch-a-step-closer/42165146.html . The post states false plans were drawn for one. It also lists the benefits to youths and the local community of having one. Basically a general article.

In July 2023, another article from the Independent was posted https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wexford/new-ross-news/rosbercon-greenway-trailhead-chosen-as-location-for-new-ross-skate-park/a1693958490.html – which for some reason – estimates shot up by 150.000 euros. In 6 months. That to me – makes no sense. Which begins to question, how serious was this looked into? The plans, in July 2023 – were ”lined up” and a contract for the plans were signed. Still, no confirmation of whether a proposal is made. There has been nothing about it since.

To summarise – there were people crying out for it – then plans were to be proposed – no proof a proposal was actually made.
